Reality of Type 1 Diabetes
in Venezuela
In our country there is a severe shortage of medicines. Some have higher priorities than others. Insulin is a vital product for patients with Type 1 Diabetes. A child without insulin can deteriorate in hours, and death can come within weeks. On the other hand, the needs of a child with this disease goes beyond insulin. We are talking about: testing strips, syringes, pen-tips, Glucagon for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia, tapes to measure ketones in blood or urine.
